The Oriental Insurance Company Ltd was established in 12th September, 1947 at Bombay (now Mumbai). The company was previously known as ?The Oriental Fire and General Insurance Co. Ltd.?. Oriental Insurance was set up by Sir Purushottamdas Thakurdas.

The company offers insurance both on Life and Non life sphere.

It is one of the prominent home insurance companies in India. The company offers a policy which covers risks and perils involving damage of property or home due to malicious acts like burglary or house breaking . Even business premises fall under the policy. This insurance policy also covers shares and stocks in trade, cash and currency notes secured in lockers.

However the policy excludes claims made by the policy holder when the burglary is done by a their family members or inmates or by some business staff. Even loss of cash will not be entertained if it happened due to negligence. Loss of property as a consequence of natural calamity is not under the policy coverage.

The Oriental Insurance Company Limited has its head office in New Delhi.

Other than that there are 21 Regional Offices, several Divisional Offices and branch offices all over India. The Company is also operating in Dubai, Nepal and Kuwait.
