It was established in 1916 in Karur, a small town in Tamil Nadu which was extensively dependent on agriculture and textiles industry. The founders of the bank were Sri Athi Krishna Chettiar and Sri M.A. Venkatarama Chettiar. Karur Vysya Bank started operating with only Rs. 1 lakh as capital.

The bank has developed into a major financial services company in Tamil Nadu with a full range of financial and banking services for millions of people.

As of 31st March, 2010 the total business of Karur Vysya Bank has crossed the Rs. 32,900 crore mark. The bank is the first private sector bank in Tamil Nadu to surpass the landmark number of Rs. 30,000 crore worth of total business.

Karur Vysya Bank has a network of 335 branches and 376 ATMs. The bank is mulling to open another 50 branches by the close of the financial year 2010-11. The bank is also one of the oldest banks in India to bring all its branches under CBS (Core Banking Solutions). The presence of the bank is felt in 13 States and 3 Union Territories of India. To make things easier for the customers, the bank has introduced state-of-the-art mobile banking and Internet banking services.
