The bank started its operations with only a capital of Rs. 11,000 and there were only 7 employees to work for the bank. Dhanlakshmi Bank received the status of a Scheduled Commercial Bank in 1977. It received permissions from the Reserve Bank of India for setting up 66 branches in different parts of India in 2009.The bank has a carved a niche in the retail and commercial banking sector of India. The insurance partner of Dhanlakshmi Bank is Bajaj Allianz. Currently, the bank has 270 branches and it has also spread out its operations in states like West Bengal, Delhi, Gujarat and Maharashtra.
